Weekly Update 8/27/18

posted Aug 26, 2018, 12:07 PM by Melissa Patterson

GOOD EVENING LIL’ CAT FAMILIES!  We had an amazing first week of school last week!  We are looking forward to greeting our scholars again on Monday morning!  We want to remind parents to make sure that you complete the parent information packets and send them back to school if you have not yet done so.  School safety is our priority. This week we will begin practicing our safety drills. In the case of a real emergency, we will contact parents via this messenger system.  However, we will not send out messengers after a drill. Please be aware that we practice safety drills throughout the year to ensure that scholars know what to do in case of a fire or lockdown.

One of our goals this year is to reach a 95% attendance rate.  Last year, we had an attendance rate of 89.4% which we know had a significant impact on student achievement.  According to the Attendance Works website, When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating.  Between August and September, there are only 23 days of school. Every moment matters! Please make sure that your child attends school everyday so that they get every opportunity to be successful!

Minnequa is an AVID school. AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.  As an AVID school, we focus on building level systems that support Writing to learn, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading to learn.  These are skills that prepare our youth for college and career readiness! Don’t forget to wear your college shirts on Monday to promote college awareness!

This is a reminder that we have a couple of fun family events coming up in September.  Mark your calendars for Open House on September 5th and Zoo Night on September 19th. Also, September 3rd is Labor Day and there is no school. Have an amazing week!
